მანდარინები / Mandarinebi

The plot of the film takes place during the war in Abkhazia, although the film does not depict war scenes. It tells about the Estonians living in Abkhazia. During the war, the Estonian authorities evacuated the Estonians living there from Abkhazia, but some of them chose to stay in Abkhazia of their own accord. Two residents remained in the village. After the clash between the Georgians and the Chechens, one of the Estonians, Ivo, shelters his enemies on the brink of death: a wounded Georgian volunteer warrior and a hired Chechen militant.

Summer of 1942. The elderly Georgian farmer Giorgi Makharashvili learns that his son, Goderdzi, is wounded and was taken to a hospital. Giorgi is setting forth to visit his son. While he was getting there, the son had recovered and sent off to the front. Giorgi decides to stay in the army and successfully gets enlisted to the motorized units. Together with his comrades in arms, he goes to Germany. He finds his son's tank brigade was the first to cross the river. There is a fight in a building between the Soviets on ground level, and Germans on the second level, as the Soviets try to liberate the blockaded soldiers on the third level. Giorgi hears his son, and tries to save him.

Giorgi leaves his country in search of a job and settles down in France. He doesn't loose hope that one day he will return to his homeland, his "roots".
